Our Community

At Halpern Akiva Academy we realize that it takes a community to raise a child. We are proud of our warm inclusive Halpern Akiva family which includes people from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds. We partner together with parents to develop customized education plans for each student.

We partner with Jewish Family Services to provide social and psychological services to our families. We invite community leaders to come share their experiences with students to inspire them to one day be leaders.

Halpern Akiva Academy is affiliated with House of Jacob-Mikveh Israel, is a beneficiary agency of The Calgary Jewish Community Federation, is an accredited Alberta Learning school and follows the curriculum guidelines of the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools.

Our History

In 1980, for the purpose of developing and fostering a viable Jewish community in Calgary, House of Jacob-Mikveh Israel established Akiva Academy to provide a Jewish day school education to Jewish students at the preschool, elementary and secondary levels of education.

In 2014, thanks to the generosity of the Koschitzky Family Trust and donors across our community we were able to purchase the Haddon Road School and establish our building as the Israel and Golda Koschitzky Torah Centre.

In 2019, through a generous gift from the Halpern family, in memory of their parents David and Tibele Halpern (z”l), the school was renamed the Halpern Akiva Academy.
